about bellcurve

bellcurve exists because donors deserve to know what their gifts made possible.

Most donors never find out.

They give once - moved by a story, compelled by a need - and then they wait for someone to close the loop. It rarely happens.

So they quietly stop giving.

where bellcurve came from

Bonar Bell spent two decades watching good donors lapse for reasons that had little to do with generosity, and everything to do with communication.

Working across several roles, organizations and countries, he came to recognize that the right donor update, at the right moment, can stop a cancellation, renew a lapsed donor, and turn a one-time supporter into a champion.

bellcurve launched in 2026 around one realization: donor retention isn't a data problem. It's a communication problem.

how bellcurve works

At the heart of bellcurve is the Donor Results Chain, an approach to supporter communications blending Results-Based Management and the donor lifecycle. Emotion drives the first gift, but the rational brain needs proof that the investment worked.

That's why, when real change is communicated to a donor in a way that they can connect with, retention follows.
